What is Region of Lifesavers?

Region of Lifesavers is a unique and comprehensive system to save lives. We assist emergency medical operations or fire department in becoming compliant with the 2021 Guidelines for Resuscitation published by the European Resuscitation Council and the American Heart Association. The official document “Systems saving lives” by ERC shows that alerting nearby help to provide CPR and bringing an AED to a patient can significantly strengthen the chain of survival.

Region of Lifesavers was invented in 2011 in Denmark and has since spread to numerous locations. Together with the German organization Region der Lebensretter, we have taken it a step further, so that the concept now includes not only a system and apps, but also a comprehensive set of materials for making a non-governmental organization, public communication, health and safety, and the highest level of data management and privacy protection. It is of course possible for any EMS or fire service to just use the technology, but we recommend some level of organization in order to get a success.

Since 2011, the system has helped save lives across continents, and scientific validation is considerable with more than 19 internationally published peer reviewed articles and numerous invitations to international, national, and regional congresses.

How does the system work?

You can start using the Region of Lifesavers app when your regional EMS is connected to the system. When this is in place, you will receive alerts when a cardiac arrest or other acute illness happens in the vicinity of your current location.

You will receive alerts based on your qualifications and the alert types that your region uses, and it may be just cardiac arrest, or additional acute alarm types such as home birth problems, car accidents, drowning – all based on decisions by your region.

When you get an alert, you can decide to either accept or reject the alert, and if you accept you will get a role allocated and the details of the place of the person in need of help. You can utilize route navigation to find your way fast, and you can communicate with the other responders via a drop-down list of phone numbers. If during the alert, you have doubts as to what to do, then you can always reach your local EMS via the same menu.

When you get on-site you can press a button to tell EMS that you are on-site, and after the alert is finished, you can fill in a case report.

In the case of cardiac arrest, you can be allocated to three different roles: (1) go on site and perform CPR, (2) get an AED and go on-site, and (3) go on-site and talk to the relatives and signal the ambulance.

All of the above is clearly guided in the app.

You can also choose to set a pause from being alerted, and in the settings menu, you can upload your photo and qualifications. Photo is used for identification card, and qualifications are used to match you to alert types.

Who can use the app?

The app can be used by anyone who is accepted as responder in the regions where you work or live. This way you can be near a person with cardiac arrest and provide fast and life-saving help. Requirements may differ from region to region based on local policies or legal basis.

Ask your region (Emergency Medical Services or Fire Department) if they use the app, and if you can be connected to the system as responder.

The app is available in many languages. If your language is not available, just contact us.
